Our multicultural team share a common passion to reach out to the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

SIM Australia operations are led by our National Director, Dr Omar Djoeandy with the help of the Board and Executive Leadership Team. We have over 20 committed team members and many volunteers who offer their time and talents to help fulfil our mission.

SIM Australia is based in Penshurst, NSW, but is represented by regional staff and volunteers throughout Australia. 

SIM Australia has a voluntary Board of Directors who provide governance according to their experience and skills to ensure we fulfil our mission and act according to our constitution.

Dr Omar Djoeandy

National Director SIM Australia
Dr. Omar Djoeandy is ethnically Chinese, born in Indonesia and an Australian since 10.  He studied Medicine at University of NSW and Theology in Kenya.  He has worked as a General Practitioner in Sydney and as Associate Pastor at Nairobi Chapel, Kenya when it grew from 800 to over 2,000.  During that time Omar published his book “Redefining Success” (2002).  He has served as the National Director of SIM Australia since 2004.  He is passionate for SIM Australia to facilitate more people, prayer and funds for Christ’s global mission, especially to the unreached in difficult countries.
He is married to Kay and they have three children.

Mal Watts

Finance Director/Deputy Director
Mal provides leadership to our Finance team including administering support for our missionaries including field and home staff, transferring funds to SIM field offices and overseeing our independent financial audits. Mal and his wife Jenny served as SIM missionaries in Burkina Faso at the SIM field office. Having returned to Australia, Mal has joined us in Sydney as a ‘home staff missionary’.

Stan provides leadership to our Ministry team who mobilise Christians to serve in mission, facilitate pastoral care to missionaries, and partner with Australian churches. Stan’s focus is on coaching and speaking at churches about cross-cultural mission. Originally from the United States, Stan and his wife Deanna serve SIM as ‘home staff missionaries’ based in Melbourne.

Jon Cheung

Board Chair
Jon was appointed Chair of the board of SIM Australia in 2014, having served as a board member since 2013.  Jon is a partner of Prolegis Lawyers in Sydney, a specialist firm advising charities and not-for-profit organisations.  Jon has previously served with an organisation in South Africa partnering with local churches and community organisations working in communities affected by AIDS/HIV in several countries in Southern Africa.

Amelia is an experienced Human Resources Professional with experience spanning the full range of HR activities including culture change, change management, project management, recruitment and selection, outsourcing, management coaching, performance management, employee relations, industrial relations, remuneration and benefit management, employee engagement, organisation development, leadership development and policy development across both the Banking and Finance and Oil and Gas industries.
More recently Amelia has lead the People Stream for Australia’s most successful transition from an oil refinery to the countries largest import terminal over a period of more than 2.5 years. This involved the retention, development, redeployment or retrenchment of nearly 400 employees whilst maintaining morale and a low turnover through the transition.  Her strong customer service ethic, empathetic nature, ability to form strong working relationships and enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude are key components to her success.
 
Michael Gordon

Mr Michael Gordon is an Australian Citizen.  He is currently a Director in Citigroup Global Markets Australia servicing financial institution clients and has held the position since 2010.  Prior to that Michael ran similar teams in Sydney and New York for Royal Bank of Scotland from 2000 to 2009.  Michael is a member of St Thomas Anglican Church North Sydney.  While in New York he was a trustee for Christ Church New York City and continues to be involved with work to support the Anglican Church of North America.  Michael is married to Tracey and has three children.  He enjoys running, tennis, cooking and, when he gets the chance, woodwork.
Alyson Hicks

Alyson is a Clinical Psychologist, working in private practice in South-West Sydney for the past four years. She conducts therapy with a wide range of people and assesses mission candidates and returning missionaries for SIM and other mission organisations. Alyson previously worked for 10 years as a caseworker and manager in statutory child protection services. In 2003, Alyson and her husband Tim spent 12 months as SIM Associates in Ethiopia. She taught music and psychology at Bingham Academy. Alyson loves adventuring outdoors, growing closer to God, sharing His love with others and seeing Him move in people’s lives.
Chris Seddon

Chris is an actuary working in CommInsure, part of the Wealth Management division of the Commonwealth Bank. He has had a long career in financial services. He brings this financial expertise to the Board and chairs the Finance Committee. He sits on the SIM International Board of Governors and chairs the Finance Committee of that Board. He is on the leadership team of his church. He is passionate about stewardship and Christians developing a broad vision of God’s work in the world.
Glenda Mitchell

Glenda Mitchell

Glenda is a passionate and motivated business leader and adviser working with organisations undergoing growth and change. She is currently working as head of project governance and capability for a healthcare provider. She brings extensive management, project and governance experience to the Board.

Glenda grew up in South Africa where she had the opportunity to participate in mission as a child and teenager. These experiences compounded with her travel later in life to developing countries has given Glenda an innate desire to spread God’s love through word and deed. She and her husband were fortunate enough to visit their sponsor child in Tanzania in 2014. This further reinforced her love for Africa and prompted her to become an advocate for the sponsorship organisation, speaking as an advocate at various churches and forums.
 
Lawrence Tan

Lawrence Tan

Lawrence lectures in General Practice at Western Sydney University, and works part-time in a Spanish-speaking practice near Fairfield. He teaches medical students and GP registrars, and conducts research into primary health care in culturally diverse populations. Lawrence and Liling, with their three daughters, spent 14 years serving with SIM in Bolivia, and prior to that had spent time in West Africa as short-term associates. Lawrence is actively involved at their church in Croydon Park.
