The following are specific ways your teaching skills can be used to reach the least reached - by training up the next generation of godly men and women, coming alongside missionaries, and responding to needs in the community.
Types of Teaching Opportunities
International Schools
Families going overseas to share the gospel need a whole support system as they go. Recognising and responding to this need, SIM founded or partnered with schools around the world to provide excellent, Christ-centred education for our missionary children. Over time, God opened doors for these schools to include children from the expatriate and local communities, including children whose parents are world leaders, business professionals, NGO workers, and embassy staff. It’s an amazing community.

Non-traditional Opportunities
SIM provides many creative ways to support missionary families and reach the unreached. Non-traditional teaching roles allow for SIM personnel to respond to the needs of diverse and unique communities. Non-traditional teaching opportunities are located wherever there is a need, including South America, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
- By Homeschooling missionary children, you allow their parents to serve in the ministry they are trained to do. Families who work in remote areas struggle with limited educational options for their children and recognise they cannot sustain long-term ministry without meeting their kids’ needs. Being a homeschool teacher is an extremely valuable support role that helps keep missionary families on assignment. How this works is very flexible. It can be done in the family home or teaching several families’ children in a one-room schoolhouse-type setting. Opportunities and locations vary from year to year, dependent on need.
- Teaching in a university setting provides the opportunity to reach college students and challenge their thinking as they enter adulthood. Whether it’s teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), working as a professor in your area of expertise, or providing theological education, you can help reach those who have never heard the name of Jesus, or train those who have heard to share the good news more effectively.
- Teaching in a local school is a great way to engage a community with the gospel and learn a lot about the culture. It requires learning the local language, but can be a valuable support to educators around the world.
