Galmi Hospital Project
Aim of the Project
Project # 84400 Niger. Galmi Hospital provides medical care greatly needed in Niger where there is one doctor for every 30,000 citizens. While Galmi Hospital is self-sustaining for wages and medicines, this project funds extra items such as medical equipment, tools for evangelism, computers, and office equipment. Your financial gift will enable Galmi to continue to offer excellent, compassionate care in the name of Christ. By giving to this fund you enable us to continue to offer treatment at reasonable prices.
Background
For over fifty years, Galmi Hospital has been an oasis in the desert. Located on the south edge of the Sahara in Niger, this 120-bed hospital provides compassionate care to Nigeriens from all walks of life.
Providing medical care meets a real need in Niger where there is one doctor for every 30,000 citizens. The clinics at Galmi serve up to 300 men, women, and children daily, most of whom are Muslims.
Compassionate medical care serves as a bridge to share about the love of Christ. Every day, the staff shows the JESUS film, and patients have the opportunity to hear the gospel message through Bible teaching.
More than 100,000 people come anually to seek help for life-threatening and debilitating illnesses and injuries. The Muslim people of Niger welcome Christians who are willing to come and represent the Great Healer with a loving and practical presence.
Galmi is a serving community and a family of related ministries clustered around the primary hospital site and activities. Beyond the full range of hospital services, servants of Jesus at Galmi are also working in
- HIV, AIDS and TB screening and treatment,
- nutritional rehabilitation and education,
- community health development,
- evangelism and discipleship,
- youth work,
- elementary education,
- hospitality, and
- all the administrative, maintenance and support services required by a large institution.
