Emerging Missions

Speaking at the 2006 SIMWORLD conference hosted by SIM Australia Dr. Joshua Bogunjoko, Deputy International Director for Europe and West Africa, shared about the history of emerging multidirectional missions, including what is happening in Nigeria today and the role of SIM in supporting new mission movements around the world.

About Joshua Bogunjoko

Joshua Bogunjoko is a man of vision. Raised in Nigeria, he trained as a doctor at Evangel Hospital, Jos. The hospital staff were outstanding mentors and prepared him well for the journey God had ahead for him. He married Joanna, a fellow doctor, and they served together at Galmi Hospital, Niger, where Joshua was able to use his skills as a doctor and mentor, following the example of those who had mentored him.
He gained a graduate degree in Organisational Leadership from the Briercrest Biblical Seminary in Canada and in 2002 became a member of SIM Canada. Joshua returned to Galmi Hospital with his wife and two sons and served first as chief medical officer and then as hospital director. In 2005, Joshua was appointed as SIM Deputy International Director for West Africa and Europe, beginning in September 2006.
Joshua is part of a new era in world mission. The centre of gravity has shifted from traditional Christendom to Africa, Asia and South America. Since 1999 these countries have sent out more missionaries than countries in the West.

Praying for Missionaries

It takes discipline and commitment to pray for missionaries who live in places we know little about, work in a language we don’t speak and are confronted every day with challenges we’ve never experienced.
Here is a guide to some practical ways of staying focused in prayer for missionaries.
