Journeying with Christians in Victoria and Tasmania

Friday, 15 December 2023 Journeying with Christians in Victoria and Tasmania The Home Ministry Team at SIM plays a crucial role in contributing to SIM’s vision of making disciples of Jesus in communities where He is least known. Our Regional Ministry Directors (RMDs) are instrumental in mobilising people for Christ’s global mission and serve as SIM’s voice in partnering with churches and individuals in their region.

In addition to encouraging churches and individuals to consider their part in missions, our RMDs provide leadership to our Mission Mobilisers and actively mentor and care for all applicants, associates and members.

Neil Sim, who served on the Home Ministry Team for over a decade as the RMD for Victoria and Tasmania and a Mission Mobiliser, has returned to the field to serve with SIM in Benin alongside his wife, Sil. We thank God for Neil’s faithful service and contribution. We look forward to seeing how God uses both Neil and Sil in Benin!

We are delighted to welcome Kathleen Vergers, our new SIM Australia RMD for Victoria and Tasmania. Kathleen, who started in October, is passionate about enabling others to serve in God’s global mission. In her new role, Kathleen will mentor those preparing to serve in least reached communities. Preparing to serve cross-culturally with SIM is a journey that is done in community. In partnership with local churches, SIM applicants receive discipleship, training and support from the SIM Home Ministry Team.

Kathleen views her role as serving in God’s Kingdom to mobilise churches, mission workers and our team in Victoria & Tasmania. She believes in the importance of unity and knowing our role in God’s mission.
In her first few months in the role, Kathleen has enjoyed engaging with a variety of mission-minded people and churches. She shared an encouraging meeting with a young couple wanting to serve as long-term mission workers.

“Steve (Mobilisation Director) and I spent a few hours with them and heard their passion and excitement and what they've been praying about. It was a meaningful and encouraging exchange and we were very like-minded and like-hearted as we talked through their next steps in preparing to serve in God’s mission.”

Looking forward to 2024, Kathleen expressed her excitement for seeking new opportunities, new churches, new people, and a fresh approach guided by the Holy Spirit, in engaging with missions in Victoria and Tasmania. For anyone considering serving in cross-cultural missions, Kathleen offers this advice: “Start the conversation, seek information, pray, fast, seek godly counsel and really discern what God’s plan is. This can sometimes just start with a conversation about what the opportunities are, how you would fit into what’s already happening, and how you can partner with what God is already doing.”

PRAY: Join us in giving thanks that Kathleen has joined the Home Ministry Team! Pray for our Regional Ministry Directors as they lead their teams and walk alongside Australian believers journeying towards serving in mission.
