We support projects through prevention workshops, education programs, medical treatment and volunteer training in order to break to the cycle of poverty and infection. Help us fight this devastating disease. Read the latest SIM Project Focus.
“HIV and AIDS is the most devastating disaster to hit Africa, but it presents a great opportunity for the church!”
– Mike Hammond, Director of SIM Malawi.
Hope for Life is a SIM international initiative to help stop the spread of HIV and support families impacted by HIV/AIDS. SIM supports a dozen Hope for Life programs in Africa and Asia, including Malawi, Zimbabwe, India and Thailand.
SIM’s Hope for Life programs partner with volunteers from local churches to run prevention workshops and training for children, youth and couples at schools, churches and community centres. Education programs include counselling and testing facilities.
“I now have freedom not to be fearful of people with HIV. I was hesitant to help because of ignorance, but now I want to get involved!”
– a beneficiary of SIM’s Hope for Life Thailand initiative.
Most HIV and AIDS sufferers are cared for by their families, who struggle to cope with providing long-term palliative care, extra medical expenses, loss of ability to earn income, and stigma. So SIM mobilises and equips community volunteers to provide Home Based Care offering practical and emotional support.
Several of our Hope for Life projects offer community mentoring and education support for vulnerable primary and high school age children who have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS. Without this support, these children would be forced to drop out of school, continuing a family cycle of poverty and hopelessness. The impact of this help lasts a lifetime and benefits entire families!
“I hope and dream that one day there will be a cure for AIDS. I want to be a doctor. If I can’t be a doctor, I will be a lawyer.”
– a beneficiary of SIM’s Hope for Life Zimbabwe program.
Another way Hope for Life helps people is through income generating initiatives for families and carers.
